We are proud to share that today, on the 16th of December 2024, Tianyu Zhang successfully defended his PhD thesis, titled Artificial Intelligence For Diagnosis And Image Synthesis In Breast Cancer, at Maastricht University.

This thesis focuses on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) models to improve the diagnosis of breast cancer, the most common cancer in women and a major cause of cancer-related mortality. The research explores how AI can analyze medical images and patient data to predict cancer risks, classify tumor types, and identify molecular subtypes, providing more accurate and personalized diagnostic insights. In addition, the thesis introduces innovative AI methods to generate missing MRI scans, so that complete diagnostic data is available even when certain imaging sequences are not available. By integrating AI with advanced imaging technologies, the goal of this research is to improve the accuracy and reliability of breast cancer diagnosis, and ultimately increase the efficiency of the care process for breast cancer patients.
